Evil Dead is an upcoming 2013 American horror film directed by Fede Alvarez and starring Jane Levy and Shiloh Fernandez. It is a remake of the 1981 critically acclaimed cult horror film The Evil Dead, which was written, produced, and directed by Sam Raimi, who co-wrote and produced the remake. It is the fourth installment of The Evil Dead franchise, and the first not to be directed by Raimi or star Bruce Campbell as Ash Williams. The director Fede Alvarez was hand picked by Raimi himself and it is Alvarez's first feature film.In the much anticipated remake of Sam Raimi & Bruce Campbell's 1981 cult-hit horror film, five twenty-something friends become holed up in a remote cabin. When they discover a Book of the Dead, they unwittingly summon up dormant haunted demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival. Raimi and Rodo Sayagues co-wrote the script, which was then rewritten by Diablo Cody.The film was produced by Raimi, Campbell and Robert G. Tapert — the producer of the original trilogy. A remake had been planned by Raimi and Campbell for numerous years, however, in 2007 Campbell stated that the proposed remake was "going nowhere" and "fizzled" due to extremely negative fan reaction.However in 2011, he spoke again about the remake, stating "We are remaking Evil Dead. The script is awesome [...] The remake's gonna kick some ass — you have my word". On July 13, 2011 it was officially announced, via a press release, that Ghost House Pictures would be producing the upcoming remake of The Evil Dead, with Diablo Cody in the process of revising the script and Fede Alvarez chosen as the director.Actor Shiloh Fernandez is reported cast as the main lead role of David.Bloody Disgusting has reported that Lily Collins is in the lead role as Mia, but on January 24, 2012, Collins has dropped out of the role. On February 3, 2012 it was announced that actress Jane Levy, star of the television series Suburgatory would be replacing Collins in the lead role as Mia.Lou Taylor Pucci, Elizabeth Blackmore and Jessica Lucas have joined the cast for the horror film. In January 2013, screenwriter Fede Alvarez commented on the ambiguity of the film's relationship to the original: "Now, the way I personally like to see Evil Dead (2013), it's as a story that takes place 30 years after The Evil Dead ended. The car is there, the cabin is there (a family bought it and did some work on it more than 20 years ago) and the book has found its way back to the cabin... New kids will encounter it and suffer its wrath. Is Evil Dead a sequel then? Maybe. But the problem with the sequel theory would be that there's too many coincidences between the events on The Evil Dead and the ones on Evil Dead to have happened on a continuous story line [...] But if you believe the Naturom Demonto can force these things to happen... then it could be a sequel... and I do believe in coincidences." Also, film director Fede Alvarez said that the horror film has neither a single digital effect or CGI to what all was done the old way of filming, saying "We made no CGI in the film. All you see is real and was really demanding. filming has been very long, 70-day shoot at night. There is a reason why people use CGI, is that it is cheaper and faster, I hate it. We researched a lot of tricks illusion and magic tricks." In this regard, he said that had lasted 70 days, making it look like this format does not use any digital effects, one thing long enough to accomplish something that is real.
